Your job as a Mounting Mechanical Engineer

Co-create cutting-edge technology in the baking technology sector

In the last few years, Technology Unlimited has been growing rapidly. The driver of this development is a rising number of international projects and our continual focus on innovation and improvement of processes and products. For example, we have our own in-house bakery technologist who maintains continual contact with our clients.

As a Mounting Mechanical Engineer, you will have input in the entire process. Every project begins with a kick-off meeting. We always carefully examine which employees are best suited to each project as we’re convinced that you work harder and better when you’re doing something you enjoy!

To start out, you will spend several weeks working at our site in Almelo to prepare you for the job. Here, you will help to prepare the machine for transport. This will come in handy later as you will know where to find all the components once you arrive on-site.

You will then travel to the client’s premises to complete the construction and installation, often together with a co-worker. As a result, you will often be working on-site either in the Netherlands or abroad, which will sometimes involve being away from home for a few weeks at a time.

Would you like to see the world? If so, feel free to get in touch and discuss the details!

A word from our colleagues

Henri: “You install a wide range of machinery and components on-site both in the Netherlands and abroad.”

Henk-Jan: “Twelve years ago, I saw a job vacancy at TU that appealed to me. After my first interview, I was completely sold and I especially liked the flat organisational structure, which was significantly smaller back then.”

Koen: “What I enjoy about working for TU is the freedom involved in the work and the wonderful systems that we build!”

A selection of our projects

Pre-fermentation machines

Netherlands

This pre-fermentation machine, consisting of a pre-ferment dough maker, storage tanks and a system of pipelines, is fully prepared on-site and then later disassembled for transport. Once arriving at our client’s premises, our engineers will then reconstruct the machine on-site and connect it to our dosing system.

Conversion of existing bakery systems

Netherlands

We regularly provide existing bakeries with new machines, which often involves disassembling and removing existing systems. Conversion projects like these have to be done in a short time, so careful planning and preparation is vital. During these jobs, you will work together with the client, another engineer and the project manager.

Premix installations

Hungary

Premix machines carefully measure out the correct quantities of dry ingredients and transport them to our dosing system. Before installing the machine, the measurements specified in the technical drawing are measured out in the workplace. Manoeuvring and installing these machines can often be a major challenge for our engineers.

New-build projects

Austria

New projects are designed by our engineering department in as much detail as possible. In consultation with the client, pipeline systems can be specified and prepared. However, no matter how painstaking these efforts are, it can still be a major challenge for our engineers to install the systems as planned on-site.

A typical working day

7.00 uur
Breakfast at the hotel.

7.30 uur
Arrival on-site. Together with the electrical engineer, we will examine the schedule for the day. We get started on a premix machine. We briefly clarify how we are going to do this.

8.00 uur
The measurements specified in the technical drawing are measured out in the workplace to ensure we are properly prepared for this step. While checking the measurements, I receive a call from the truck driver to inform me he has arrived. I then tell the driver where to park the truck before getting in the forklift and asking a co-worker to help unload the truck.

10.00 uur
The truck has been unloaded and we take a quick break, after which we start to install the machine’s substructure. As the machine has already been fully constructed at our site before being carefully disassembled and prepared for transport, and as I was involved in this process, the reconstruction at the client’s premises runs smoothly.

13.00 uur
Time for lunch in the client’s on-site canteen (if available). Now the substructure has been installed, assembly of the superstructure can begin and other co-workers have already started to install the weighing system on the underside of the machine. This will subsequently be bolted to the floor and connected to the premix system via pipelines.

15.30 uur
Time for a quick cup of coffee. The client pays us a visit to see how things are coming along and asks a few questions about the system and how to use it. We then continue connecting the machine’s pipelines to the piping system that we previously installed at the bakery. This connects the premix system to our dosing system, to which the precisely measured premix products will be transported.

19.00 uur
The working day comes to an end and we make sure the workplace is left in a neat and tidy state. We then go back to the hotel to freshen up and have dinner at the hotel or a restaurant somewhere else.

Co-workers’ stories

Henri

Mounting Mechanical Engineer

What do you like about the job?
Every day is different. You install a wide range of machinery and components on-site both in the Netherlands and abroad. Once installation is complete, you work together with the commissioning engineer to test the system and solve any problems.

Why did you come to work for us?
TU approached me with a job offer and it seemed like an excellent challenge, so I accepted. I’ve worked here ever since as I enjoy the constant challenges involved in my job and the atmosphere within the company is often really good.

What do you like to do in your free time?
During the limited amount of free time I have, I like to play tennis and go on holiday with my friends.

What do you like about the job?
I have a huge amount of freedom in my work and personal initiative is valued highly. I enjoy solving complex problems within tight schedules and making a substantial contribution to the process.

Why did you come to work for us?
Twelve years ago, I saw a job vacancy at TU that appealed to me. After my first interview, I was completely sold and I especially liked the flat organisational structure, which was significantly smaller back then.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to go cycling on my racing bike, although in the winter, I’m more likely to be on my skates than on my bike.

Henk-Jan

Project Manager

Koen

Assembly Engineer

What do you like about the job?
At the moment I’m working in the assembly department and I hope to join the installation department in June after I graduate. In my current position, I have gained a lot of knowledge about our machines: everything created by the production department is built in the assembly department and then I construct the pipelines. In the installation department, I’d like to further develop my skills by installing the machines and pipelines at our clients’ bakeries in consultation with the client and the project manager in question.

Why did you come to work for us?
When I terminated my studies, my dad (Henri) said that I should come and see where he works. I enjoyed it so much that I’m still here after three years despite having had no experience in engineering when I started out! What I enjoy about working for TU is the freedom involved in the work and the wonderful systems that we build!

What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy sports as well as enjoying a drink with my teammates.

We would like to get in touch with you.
